Lutheran Hymnal
Zion Lutheran Church

Zion Lutheran Church, Ocheyedan Iowa
is actually 2.5 miles north of Ocheyedan on County Road L-58
Worship is held Sunday at 10:30 am
Sunday School and Bible Class at 9:30 am

It was established before Ocheyedan existed, and from those roots, it is referred to as Zion of Horton Township. Worship began in 1884, and the congregation was formally organized in 1887 and the parochial school began in the same year. Unfortunately, after over 100 years of service, declining enrollment and a declining farm population led to the close of the School, however in the Fall of 1996 a new beginning was made, with the opening of a preschool in conjunction with St. Peter Lutheran Church of Ocheyedan. The purpose of Zion Lutheran Church is to equip the saints for the work of ministry. We want everyone to know the way to heaven, which is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. We want everyone to know and receive the grace of God, which is the forgiveness of sin, and the new life, which God gives in and through Holy Baptism. We celebrate the gift of Christ's body and blood, for the forgiveness of sins in Holy Communion, which is on the 1st and 3rd Sunday's of the month. In keeping with Christ's command and confessional Lutheran practice, we practice close communion. Should you find yourselves in the area drop in, we would love to meet you.
